Chief Dentist
Chief Dentist role in Turku leading specialist dental services with strategic development.
This role combines strategic development, leadership, and the opportunity to build a new operating model for specialist dental services. You will join Varha to strengthen and lead basic specialist dental services across the wellbeing district. The service is currently produced in-house and as external purchases. An internal unit is being established in the Dentalia facility to centralize services. You will coordinate and develop specialist dental services across the whole wellbeing district, including planning, development, harmonisation, monitoring, creating operating guidelines and coordinating communications, and tasks related to procurement of external specialist dental services. You will lead the unit’s finances, operations and personnel in your area of responsibility, and align operations with dental leadership and wellbeing district strategic directions. You will coordinate and implement specialist dental education in collaboration with the teaching clinic’s Chief Dental Officer, the University of Turku, and specialised medical care. You will act as an expert and supervisor in a central role that influences service quality and availability across the district. The role is administrative in character. We offer a meaningful position where you can apply broad expertise and develop dental-specialist services into the future, within a changing environment and new solutions. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that values collaboration, evidence-based practice, and continuous development. We expect a leadership and development-minded expert who can understand service packages broadly and drive changes methodically. Experience in leadership and development in dental healthcare is valued. Familiarity with healthcare system legislation and authorities’ guidelines and ability to apply them in leading and developing your area is considered an asset. We value ability to steer clinical activities in practical work environments. Strong change management and knowledge-based leadership skills are appreciated to support strategic development and organizational renewal. A positive, coaching and encouraging approach, plus ability to motivate and engage staff toward common goals, are valued. The eligibility requirement is licensure or authorization to practice dentistry under health and medical services law (559/94) and specialist qualification in a relevant dental specialty, plus leadership and development experience in the field. Proficiency in Finnish (spoken and written) and satisfactory Swedish (spoken and written) are required.
