Kaarina has 10 basic education schools, one of which is a Swedish-language school (grades 1-6), as well as an upper secondary school. Key qualities for working as a substitute in basic education are cooperation skills and initiative, and the ability to handle unexpected situations. Substitutes must be at least 18 years old and have sufficient proficiency in Finnish. Teacher qualification requirements are determined according to Decree 986/98. Students and those with relevant work experience in the field may also join the substitute register. Substituting in upper secondary school requires at least university studies in the subject being taught. Those interested in upper secondary school substitutions can contact the principal of the upper secondary school. We require a valid criminal record extract from substitutes in accordance with Act 504/2002. The extract is submitted electronically according to the instructions provided after the application is submitted. It is the substitute's responsibility to update their availability every three months to keep the application active.
