About the role

In the child psychiatry ward and acute care unit, we examine and treat children aged 4-12 with psychological symptoms who require emergency or urgent psychiatric investigation. Urgent referrals are directed to the acute care team, and patients requiring rapid and acute care and assessment due to acute symptoms—which often significantly reduce functional capacity—affect the nature of the work. Symptom profiles include, among others, self-harm, aggression, anxiety, and depression. The child psychiatry ward and acute care unit is located on the Tays campus. The psychologist works in child psychiatry ward and acute care as part of a multidisciplinary team and participates in assessing the need for psychiatric crisis and acute care for children. The psychologist participates in the planning and implementation of treatment. The work includes, among other things, individual meetings with children involving assessment, therapeutic work, and psychological tests where possible, assessment of the child's functional capacity and development, participation in care negotiations, and working with parents and networks. Additionally, the unit provides crisis consultation for pediatrics. You may apply for the position if you are a licensed psychologist in Finland. Experience in clinical psychology, psychological testing for children, and working with families, schools, and other networks is considered an advantage. In addition to professional expertise as a psychologist, we require the ability to work both independently and as a member of a work team. We value strong knowledge and skills in psychology, good interaction skills, and a positive attitude toward developing work and operational models. Further information: Starting date for the position is from September 1, 2026, and the fixed-term employment lasts until February 26, 2027. The work is full-time day work, and the working hours are 37 hours and 45 minutes per week. The probation period is half the duration of the employment. You must have valid vaccine protection in accordance with Section 48 of the Communicable Diseases Act (1227/2016). Before accepting the position, you must present a criminal record extract in accordance with Section 6, subsection 2 of the Criminal Records Act. If you want to be part of a work team whose mission is to support children and their families during difficult stages of life, we would like to hear more from you. We may invite applicants for interviews during the application period, so if you are interested in the position, please submit your application as soon as possible.
