These include product preparation and display, serving ice cream, cleaning, supervising assistant cafe workers, serving alcohol, cafe and bar work, cashier duties, and baking. Tähtitornin Kahvila and Kesäkirjakauppa is a summery cultural cafe with a variety of events, ranging from Electrons to mental sports championships. The cafe also serves as an art gallery with rotating exhibitions throughout the summer. The tower is open from the eve of Vappu until the end of September. In addition to culture, the cafe offers good coffee and treats, most of which are prepared on-site. The cafe has an A-license (local Maistila beers are also available). Tähtitornin Kahvila is an all-weather ice cream kiosk specializing in homemade ice creams. The cafe is dog-friendly, and special dog ice cream is prepared for them. On the first floor of the building is Kesäkirjakauppa, a place to find affordable and interesting books. A wide variety of Oulu-themed postcards are also for sale. Nispero Kustannus is also based at Tähtitornin Kahvila, and its books are published throughout the summer.
