General Assembly has transformed careers through experiential education since 2011, offering training in web development, data, design, business, and other in-demand skills online and at campuses. Its professional community includes 60,000 alumni, and more than 21,000 employees at companies worldwide have participated in its upskilling and reskilling initiatives. The organization has been recognized by Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 and Fast Company, including for World-Changing Ideas and innovation in education. GA works on practical solutions to the future of work. In this role, you will speak regularly with corporate leaders who rely on GA to help prepare their workforces for the future. As a Lead Learning Experience Designer (LED), you will design, develop, and contextualize high-quality GA learning programs for enterprise, technical, and professional audiences. You will create practical, outcome-driven experiences that help learners develop relevant skills and apply them confidently in real workplace settings. You will need strong learning experience design knowledge, program development and project management skills, and hands-on fluency with AI tools and emerging workplace technologies. AI is increasingly embedded in GA programs and client needs, and you should understand workplace uses of modern AI tools and translate that knowledge into applied activities, labs, simulations, facilitator guides, assessments, and client-specific adaptations. The role contributes to GA’s AI-enabled and emerging technology portfolio, but its central responsibility is to create scalable, high-quality programs meeting learner needs, client goals, market expectations, and instructional standards. You will collaborate with subject matter experts, instructors, product managers, learning designers, assessment specialists, vendors, and client-facing teams to create learning experiences reflecting current market needs, emerging capabilities, and practical workplace application. Terms and details: This is a flexible contractor position for a two- or three-month term. During a project, the expected commitment is 30 hours per week. The role is 100% remote. Hourly pay is $45–$55 USD for US candidates, €23–€35 for European candidates, $15–$25 USD for South Asian candidates, and $20–$38 USD for APAC candidates. Key responsibilities Program ownership and discovery: Serve as lead designer for GA programs that may cover AI, emerging technology, digital transformation, technical skills, leadership, role-based application, or workplace productivity. Own the client-facing design process, including requirements gathering, outcomes, timelines, scope, resourcing, development plans, and content quality from discovery through delivery. Work with sales, product, client success, solutions, and delivery teams to identify client and learner needs and turn them into practical learning solutions. Support presales and client conversations by defining skill needs, learner personas, program objectives, audience readiness, and recommended pathways. Evaluate relevant tools, workflows, use cases, and workplace contexts, including AI where appropriate. Define outcomes that move learners from awareness to practical application, improved workflows and productivity, behavior change, and responsible technology use. Applied learning design and AI-enabled development: Design practical instructor-led experiences for learners at varying proficiency levels, including programs where AI tools, workflows, or emerging technologies are central. Create slides, hands-on labs, case studies, simulations, assessments, facilitator guides, workbooks, and workplace exercises. Build realistic opportunities to apply new skills, including with AI tools and platforms when relevant. Design activities using tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, Midjourney, NotebookLM, or other enterprise-relevant tools. Translate complex technical concepts into structured, accessible, engaging learning with subject matter experts. Curate and update content to reflect industry trends, tool capabilities, best practices, accessibility, and responsible use. Create pathways across proficiency levels, covering areas such as AI literacy, role-based application, technical skills, workflow redesign, responsible use, and advanced concepts. Develop interactive exercises such as tool walkthroughs, prompt refinement, workflow mapping, use-case development, ethical decision-making, productivity tasks, coding challenges, technical labs, and business simulations. Ground learning in adult learning principles, learning science, accessibility, measurable outcomes, and workplace transfer. Follow GA standards, templates, quality processes, and productization expectations. Own development timelines, deliverables, and resources, and onboard and manage SMEs, designers, assessment specialists, instructors, vendors, contractors, and freelancers. Delivery and instructor enablement: Develop materials for live classroom delivery, including facilitator guides, run-of-show documents, workbooks, real-world case studies, tool setup instructions, troubleshooting guidance, and activity notes. Guide instructors in applied, interactive teaching, including demonstrations, coaching, discussion facilitation, learner support, exercises, and technology-supported problem solving. Work with instructors, facilitators, and clients to tailor programs for enterprises, startups, government organizations, technical teams, business leaders, and cross-functional groups. Ensure instructors can deliver confidently, accurately, consistently, and in line with GA standards. Collect and analyze learning-impact data for continuous improvement, content refinement, learner outcomes, and updates. Work with translation and localization partners when appropriate. Productization: Lead work with product management and learning systems design teams to standardize reusable learning patterns, components, activities, templates, and program structures. Help build a scalable library of reusable structures, activities, assessments, facilitator resources, client-ready assets, and relevant AI-enabled learning patterns. Identify custom materials that can become reusable product components or repeatable delivery models. Support portfolio evolution by identifying client needs, market shifts, tool trends, and opportunities for new or improved products. Qualifications: At least five years of experience in instructional design, learning experience design, curriculum design, or a related area, including significant creation of instructor-led training content. Demonstrated ability to design high-quality experiences for enterprise, professional, technical, or workplace audiences. Strong experience creating practical learning materials such as slides, facilitator guides, activities, assessments, case studies, labs, simulations, and learner resources. Experience managing clients, stakeholders, SMEs, instructors, vendors, or cross-functional partners through content development. Strong understanding of instructional design methods, including Bloom’s Taxonomy, ADDIE, experiential and practice-based learning, and adult learning principles. Ability to design for technical and non-technical audiences, including leaders and business, functional, and technical teams. Hands-on fluency with current AI tools and ability to use them to design, prototype, evaluate, and improve learning. Demonstrated experience with learning related to AI, emerging technology, data, digital transformation, technical skills, or workplace technology adoption. Working knowledge of generative AI, large language models, prompt engineering, machine learning, AI agents, ethical AI, responsible use, and enterprise AI adoption. Experience creating practical activities involving AI tools, labs, case studies, simulations, workflow exercises, or tool-based practice. Experience working with SMEs to make complex concepts structured, engaging, and accessible. Familiarity with LMS platforms, content management systems, and authoring tools. Willingness to adjust schedules for meetings across time zones, particularly the US, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Ability to thrive as priorities, tools, and client needs change, and enthusiasm for helping diverse learners build practical future-facing skills. Nice to have: Technical proficiency in AI, data science, or coding, including Python, APIs, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar frameworks; experience with GitHub or comparable technical collaboration tools; AI training labs, coding exercises, model-building workshops, or real-world AI case studies; familiarity with virtual machines, cloud labs, sandbox environments, or technical learning environments; experience incorporating AI-supported personalization, adaptive learning, or learner practice; experience with enterprise AI adoption, leadership AI, role-based AI academies, technical academies, digital transformation, or role-based learning journeys; and experience creating learning for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, NotebookLM, Midjourney, or similar platforms. Unless otherwise noted, remote positions may be performed from General Assembly’s approved operating countries: the United States (states of operation may vary), Canada (provinces of operation may vary), the United Kingdom, Australia, and Singapore.
