Social Work Master’s Internship

Task description The Regional Council of Varsinais-Suomi (Varha) offers spring 2027 a total of 31 paid three-month internships for master's level students in social work. Internships are available across Varha in diverse practice environments and roles within social work. During the internship you will work in professional social work tasks and apply the knowledge you have gained during your studies in practice. You will strengthen your interaction and documentation skills, deepen your understanding of the structures and operating environments of social work, and integrate theory, practice and ethical principles into daily work. You will also become familiar with leadership and administration practices and practice research-oriented work methods and knowledge production. The intern is part of the work community, and the internships are supervised by licensed social workers. Our aim is to provide a high-quality internship experience where you learn, challenge yourself and grow into a future social work professional. Detailed descriptions of the internships can be found in the announcement appendix. Internships are located in different parts of the Varha region, which covers 27 municipalities. The region has good public transport connections by bus and train even outside Turku. What we offer You will have the opportunity to complete a paid internship during the master’s stage in diverse tasks and environments within social work. You will receive support from experienced social work professionals and an opportunity to develop your expertise through practical work. The internship period is three months long and is generally implemented in the spring or autumn term. Further descriptions of internships are in the appendix. The internship units invite some applicants to interview before selection. What we expect from you We expect interest in practical social work, a willingness to learn new things, and readiness to operate in different client and collaboration situations. We value initiative in learning and professional growth and the courage to review and develop the structures and research-based practices of social work. Varha is a bilingual welfare region, so good Finnish and Swedish language skills are considered an asset. Some internships are carried out in Swedish-speaking areas or units where good Swedish language skills are required. A prerequisite for employment as an intern is that the student applies for internship funding from their university to support the internship. Eligibility requirement is that you study social work as your major at a university. In the application form you can choose two internships that interest you. If the description of the internship mentions that you can express a preference for the physical location of the internship, please state this in your application.
