Area Manager

We are looking for an AREA MANAGER for a permanent position in our urban construction services technical sector. Do you want to help ensure that Jyväskylä's streets, parks, and green areas remain safe, functional, and pleasant throughout the year? We are seeking a new expert to join our team of four area managers to be responsible for the maintenance of the city's streets and constructed green areas. We are responsible for the care and maintenance of a total of 1,135 kilometers of street network and about 600 hectares of constructed green areas. As an area manager, you are responsible for the planning, coordination, and supervision of work in your own area in every season of the year. In this position, you play a key role in ensuring the smoothness, safety, and quality of services. We will orient and train you for the position and offer support for the development of your expertise. What do we expect from you? As a qualification requirement, a suitable education for the position, for example in the field of urban engineering, green services, logistics or construction. We also consider students in the final stages of their studies who have the necessary skills to perform the task. In addition to substance expertise, success in the position requires experience in supervisory roles and excellent abilities to operate in demanding, high-pressure and rapidly changing situations. As an area manager, you make independent decisions and choices daily. Success in the position requires the ability to evaluate situations holistically and make justified decisions even when all information is not yet available or views differ. In the role of area manager, you need a firm and responsible approach to work and the ability to meet and handle feedback constructively with customers, partners and your own staff. In addition, we expect good interaction, negotiation and cooperation skills, fluent written and oral proficiency in Finnish, a driver's license and good IT skills. The position is located in the Streets and Parks service area of urban construction services. The service area is responsible for the management of the city's general area infrastructure, forest management, parking supervision, organization of allotment garden activities, handling of private road grants and the planning and construction of municipal technical investments.
