Geography Trainee

This internship is part of the government’s plan to hire 500 young people into fixed-term positions as seasonal workers and higher-education interns within 2026. The position is intended especially for those applying for their first job from the public sector, aged 18–25. The selected candidate must not have any other public subsidy funding. We are seeking a higher-education intern to support the development of the basic location data production unit’s impact work for Maanmittauslaitos for the period 1 Oct–31 Dec 2026 or as agreed. The employment relationship is for a maximum of 3 months. The role is suited for someone with about two years of university studies in geography, geoinformatics, or social sciences. In this role, the core task is to make visible how maps, geolocation, and geospatial data influence society. The job focuses on concretising impact for different target groups. Key tasks include assisting in the planning and execution of impact work, producing background materials, presentations and impact stories, preparing stakeholder surveys and participating in stakeholder work, collecting and analysing data on how geospatial information is utilised and what value it brings, illustrating and visualising impact work by creating presentations, graphics and maps, formulating analysis results in an understandable way, and participating in presenting the impact at various events.
