We are strengthening our shipbuilding design expertise and are looking for experienced marine design professionals. We are now seeking a senior or lead designer in machinery and HVAC for Turku or Vantaa. In this role: - You will help advance Finnish shipbuilding expertise. - You can influence how our working methods are developed. - You will work on demanding shipbuilding projects together with shipyard customers. - Your experience is valuable: you will share your expertise and support your colleagues’ development in marine design. - You will have the support of Etteplan’s broad engineering expertise and network when solutions require other expertise. Your main responsibilities: - You will do practical design work and be responsible for your own scope, which may include engine rooms, piping, and ventilation and air-conditioning systems. - You will coordinate solutions with other design disciplines and shipyard production. You will be responsible for the technical progress of the design and, when needed, guide the work of other designers. - You will work mainly at Etteplan’s Turku or Vantaa office or at customer premises. Some remote work may be possible, and the role may involve travel. Your expertise and experience: - Several years of experience in ship machinery or HVAC design. - An engineering or Master of Science in Technology degree in a relevant field. - Strong skills in AVEVA E3D, CADMATIC, or comparable marine design software, as well as AutoCAD. - Experience in a lead designer or system-owner role and a willingness to do practical design work yourself. You solve problems independently and support your colleagues. - Fluent Finnish and English and a customer-service mindset, as communication with the shipyard and customer is a key part of the work. We also value: - Knowledge of regulations for machinery outfitting and HVAC systems: SOLAS and MARPOL requirements (including Tier III for the Baltic Sea NOx emission area), classification-society rules (for example DNV, Lloyd’s Register, Bureau Veritas, ABS), ice-class requirements (Finnish-Swedish ice-class rules, IACS Polar Class), winterization rules, the IMO Noise Code, and industry standards such as ISO 7547. - Technical expertise matters, but so does how you work. You serve the customer, find solutions even in difficult situations, make use of your colleagues’ expertise, and explain your choices clearly. - An interest in developing your work and productivity with AI tools. Salary and applying: We want to ensure that your salary at Etteplan is fair and well-founded. Your salary is based on your skills and contribution in accordance with Etteplan’s practices. The typical monthly salary for this role is €4,000–€5,100. If your experience is narrower than we are looking for, we may consider you for a designer position at a lower pay level. If you bring strong technical leadership experience or the ability to grow the business, we would also be happy to discuss a broader role. Please submit your application through our recruitment system by 31 October 2026.
