Job Description
A fixed-term position for a Special Class Teacher is available at Oulu International School for the 2026-2027 academic year. Oulu International School is a unified primary school located near Ainola Park. The school has approximately 420 students and about forty staff members. The target language of the school is English, and instruction is mainly conducted in English. About half of the students are learning Finnish as a second language. The school's activities emphasize multiculturalism and internationality, language-aware teaching, well-being, and pedagogical methods such as inquiry-based and investigative learning, as well as criterion-based assessment. The school community focuses on the well-being of students and staff, supporting learning, co-teaching, literacy, and educational technology. Its central location enables active participation in various events and diversifies the learning environment. We are seeking a competent and enthusiastic Special Class Teacher for our international school for grades 1-4. The position offers a unique opportunity to work in a multicultural learning environment as part of a dedicated and professional community. As a Special Class Teacher, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating support for students' learning. The work includes designing individual support measures and implementing them in collaboration with other teaching staff. Co-teaching is a key part of the role, and success requires strong collaboration skills and the ability to operate flexibly in different teaching situations. Qualifications are determined according to the decree on the qualifications of education personnel (986/1998). Original certificates of qualification must be presented during the interview if applicable. The position requires excellent proficiency in Finnish and English. We also value a bold and development-oriented work attitude, good communication and collaboration skills, strong organizational skills, and situational awareness. Success in the role also requires the ability to plan, develop, and implement learning support. Experience in co-teaching, familiarity with international school environments, and understanding of language awareness are appreciated. Salary is determined according to the municipal teaching sector's collective agreement.
