Postdoctoral Researcher

The Finnish Museum of Natural History LUOMUS at the University of Helsinki invites applications for a fixed-term Postdoctoral Researcher position in IsoMuseomics (Stable Isotopes) based at LUOMUS, Helsinki, Finland. The postdoctoral researcher will join the IsoMuseomics project and work under the supervision of Kyung Min Lee, Head of DNA Laboratory and University Researcher. This position is part of Lee’s four-year Academy Project, funded by the Research Council of Finland. The preferred starting date is ideally from January 2027. The project combines genomic data from historical museum specimens (up to 200 years old) with stable isotope analyses and environmental data to explore historical dynamics of currently at-risk Lepidoptera species. Responsibilities include collecting meteorological and phenological time-series from FMI open records (1844–present), establishing historical climate and environmental reference datasets, analysing stable isotope data (nitrogen, carbon, hydrogen), interpreting isotope patterns in ecological contexts using statistics, and contributing to manuscript writing. Qualifications include a doctoral degree relevant to the project, proficiency with stable isotope data, ability to conduct independent scholarly work, strong collaboration and communication skills, and excellent English. Highly valued: experience with insect isoscapes, spatial isotope patterns, environmental or climate datasets, and strong quantitative skills (R). The position offers a starting gross monthly salary of ca. €3400–€3800/month (Level 5 in the Finnish university salary system) with a six-month trial period and a 1612-hour annual workload.
