Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive school assistant to support the learning, growth, and well-being of students at Kauniainen Comprehensive School. The position is permanent starting from August 7, 2026. Kauniainen Comprehensive School is an integrated school comprising Mäntymäki teaching unit (grades 1-6) and Kasavuori teaching unit (grades 7-9). Our community has a strong culture of teamwork. There are 24 supervisors for school attendance and afternoon activities. The position is initially located at Kasavuori teaching unit (grades 7-9). The selected person will work alongside special education teachers, teachers, and other school assistants. Initially, the person will work as a partner to a special class teacher in a special education class. The school assistant's work includes guidance and support for students, providing individual support both in special classes and general education lessons. School assistants work and are paid during school term, excluding school holidays. Eligible candidates must: 1) Have completed a suitable higher education degree, vocational qualification, or equivalent studies, including a professional or specialized qualification, and have acquired skills or experience in guiding a group of children. 2) Be qualified to teach primary, preschool, special education, or subject-specific classes, or to act as a student counselor. (According to the Decree on Qualifications for Teaching Staff 115/2004, section 9a) Candidates with previous experience working with children or guiding groups, or who otherwise demonstrate suitability for the role, are also encouraged to apply. We require good and fluent Finnish language skills, as well as excellent cooperation and interaction skills. A six-month probation period applies. The selected candidate must provide a criminal record extract concerning work with children and young people, as required by the Criminal Records Act (504/2002), before starting employment. Previous successful experience in schools, working with students needing support, and working with neurodiverse children/young people is considered an advantage.
