At Länsi-Uudenmaan Police Department, Espoon head police station operational investigation unit handles investigations of short-term crimes primarily within Espoo and Kauniainen. The majority of police department preliminary investigations are conducted in this unit and the investigated criminal titles are diverse. The person acts as group leader in Espoo operational investigation. The rank of Detective Chief Inspector is broad and demanding. He/she is responsible for the daily operations of the investigation group and holds restricted powers of the investigation leader. The group leader’s task is to participate in the work, lead, plan, develop and supervise the group’s activities, distribute tasks within the group and monitor investigation progress. He/she also shares responsibility for the group’s objective achievement and acts as lead investigator in special cases requiring particular expertise. Tasks are defined more precisely in the police department’s work order. The group leader uses delegation of pay powers.
