The description is based on the Finnish posting: The Customs Control Department is responsible for border control duties, including inspections of foreign trade ships, vehicles, cargo units, and passengers, regional risk analysis, storage and procedure inspections, crime control, CBRNe surveillance, radiography and dog- and boat operations. The department also performs other security authority tasks such as border control duties, issuing penalties, and cooperation with authorities and stakeholders. It operates in two units: the Customs Control Experts unit and the Operational Customs Control unit. The unit is led by a director together with unit managers, forming the department leadership. The Operational Customs Control unit comprises a national command center and four regional operations (Southern, Western, Northern and Eastern control). Apprenticeship recruitment tasks belong to the Operational Customs Control unit. Southern control covers implementation of border controls in its area and other tasks, including the Helsinki and Vantaa offices. Regions are covered across roving offices in Vuosaari, Vantaa, South Harbor and Hanko. The main headquarters of the Southern region is Helsinki. We seek customs inspectors for fixed-term positions for the period 22.2.2027–21.8.2029 or 5.4.2027–4.10.2029. Tasks include passenger, goods and vehicle border control and customs clearance for commercial foreign trade imports, exports and transit. Tasks also include border control duties and collaboration with other authorities. Work areas include ports, airports, other border crossings and various warehouses where inspections are performed in roaming mode, using various control technologies. Tulli provides further training under the career path model after selection, and after the degree is completed, opportunities to work in specialized duties within Tulli. We train you as a customs professional via apprenticeship training. The Customs profession is a secondary-level qualification. The training combines theory with practical practice. Completing the qualification provides good prospects for employment with Tulli. We are looking for a person who wants to develop themselves, is determined to complete the qualification, is proactive, and does not fear to take action in demanding situations. In the job you will meet people and work with a customer-service mindset. Tasks include handling force equipment, participating in regular force usage training, night shifts, and good management of various control situations. The duties require good physical and mental condition.
