The City of Kerava's education and teaching sector is seeking a fixed-term SCHOOL ASSISTANT (no. 049) for the period 24.8.2026 - 4.6.2027. At the start of the employment, the place of work will be Sompio School. Sompio is a comprehensive school with approximately 630 students in grades 1-9. There is one music-emphasized class for each grade level. In addition to general education, Sompio's lower secondary school has three special education classes and a flexible basic education class (JOPO). We work with heart: caring is important at Sompio. This is reflected in daily interactions with students and the community spirit of the staff. We follow good manners and do not accept bullying in any form. It is important to us to practice teamwork skills for working life. We emphasize positive pedagogy and support the development of the student's self-knowledge. Everyone has strengths, and the goal is to learn to trust one's own abilities when facing new challenges. It is important to us to stop and listen to the student in everyday life and involve students in the school's development work. As tools for the future, students from Sompio gain the readiness for further studies and the skills needed in a changing world. We have a pleasant work environment and low staff turnover. According to our Spring 2026 staff survey, the best thing about our school is the positive work community: colleagues help each other and share their expertise, and communication and structures are effective. As an added bonus: music and a good atmosphere are guaranteed at our staff parties, as we even have our own school teacher band! Your role You will work as a school assistant in general education in the lower secondary school, and additionally in the after-school club. How to succeed in the position The duty of a school assistant is to support students' learning and guide and help them with challenges in executive function, interaction, and motivation. A total of nine school assistants work at our school. Experience in a similar role and/or working with youth outside the school environment is considered an advantage. Additionally, initiative, flexibility for change, and professional interaction skills in home-school cooperation are valued. Due to the learning content of the lower secondary school, applicants are required to have excellent Finnish language skills. We hope that you are genuinely interested and enthusiastic about working with children and young people and supporting their schooling! Applicants are expected to have a degree as a school assistant or another suitable professional degree. Salary and other terms of employment are determined according to KVTES. Weekly working hours are 38.25 h. The position is subject to a four-month probationary period. Before accepting the position, the selected person must present a criminal record extract as intended in Section 6, subsection 2 of the Criminal Records Act (770/1993) based on the Act on the Checking of the Criminal Background of Persons Working with Children (504/2002).
