About the role

As a University of Applied Sciences Social Worker, you are responsible for supporting our students' ability to study, their commitment to their studies, their well-being, and their sense of community. You plan, implement, and develop diverse guidance and support activities both on our physical campus and in digital environments. What will you influence and do? Individual guidance and encounter: You provide confidential, low-threshold conversation help and concrete support for students in various life situations, bottlenecks of life management, and transition phases of studies. Community and group activities: You creatively plan and organize workshops, peer activities, and well-being events that strengthen the student community. Network and multidisciplinary cooperation: You work in close cooperation with VAMK's student well-being group, study counselors, teachers, and the student union VAMOK. You collaborate seamlessly with YTHS and other external service networks to ensure the student gets the right help. Development and projects: You participate in national and international student well-being development projects, networks, and the strengthening of our staff's well-being expertise. What do we expect from you? - Education: Degree in Social Work (Sosionomi) or other suitable higher education degree. - Understanding of the UAS field and student everyday life: You recognize the requirements of higher education studies and the diversity of the student body (e.g., young, adult, and career-changing students as well as international students). - Excellent interaction skills: You are a genuine encounterer - empathetic, easily approachable, listening, and solution-oriented. - Initiative and developing work approach: You have an independent, student-centered, and creative approach to work. You are happy to share your expertise and boldly tackle development targets. - Network and team skills: You understand that student well-being is a common matter for the entire university community and operate flexibly in multidisciplinary networks. - Digitalization: You master smooth working and guidance in digital environments and channels. - Language skills: Excellent oral and written skills in Finnish and English (Swedish language skills are seen as an advantage in Vaasa's multilingual operating environment). We encourage the combination of work, family life, and leisure and enable flexible remote work. Please note, however, that the position requires regular presence on our campus in Vaasa. We invest in our staff's well-being and competence development. The desired start date for the position is September-October 2026. The position is paid a contractual salary, the level of which is determined by your previous applicable work experience and expertise, with a salary range of approx. 3000-4000 €.
