Job Description

Assistive device mechanic duties in assistive device services. The work begins on June 15, 2026, or as agreed. The tasks include maintenance and installation of assistive devices borrowed from the assistive device center across the Kainuu region. The scope covers basic health care and specialized medical care assistive device maintenance, nursing home assistive device maintenance, installation of alarm systems, and statutory periodic maintenance. The area of responsibility is the entire Kainuu wellbeing area, and the role includes transportation of assistive devices. Repairs or installations of assistive devices are carried out either at the assistive device center’s maintenance facilities or at clients’ homes within the Kainuu region. The work also involves ordering spare parts for assistive devices and using the Effector assistive device registry to document maintenance work. The center operates three delivery vans, two of which are equipped with tail lifts. Assistive devices to be maintained include electric devices such as electric wheelchairs, electric beds, and lifting devices, as well as mechanical devices like wheelchairs and walking frames. The role also includes installing alarm systems for hearing-impaired clients at their homes (e.g., smoke detectors and doorbells). We operate in a multidisciplinary team under rehabilitation services. Our unit employs four assistive device mechanics, two assistive device specialists, two logistics staff, and a secretary in addition to supervisors. We provide thorough onboarding. The work is performed on weekdays during daytime hours. We require relevant vocational training in the field, such as a fine mechanics, technician, or equivalent qualification. A driver’s license is also required. We value initiative, independent working style, customer-oriented service, and teamwork skills. Applications are accepted via Kuntarekry. The probation period is 6 months. Priority in filling the position is given to employees of the Kainuu wellbeing area who are at risk of redundancy, provided they meet the qualification requirements. Before confirming the appointment, the selected candidate must provide a health statement and certificates of criminal background checks (Act on Background Checks for Persons Working with Children 504/2002) and for working with the elderly. Employees may be tested for drug use.
