About the role

The City of Nokia's education services are seeking applications for the position of PRINCIPAL OF PIRKAN OPISTO starting November 2, 2026, or by agreement. The position is permanent, and a six-month probationary period will be applied. Pirkan opisto is a regional adult education center operating in the areas of Nokia, Pirkkala, Lempäälä, and Vesilahti. It organizes non-formal adult education as well as basic art education in music, visual arts, theater, dance, and media arts. In addition to its core activities, the institute provides customized commissioned training and works in active cooperation with local communities to improve the well-being and quality of life of residents. The institute is one of the largest adult education centers in the country. The City of Nokia serves as the responsible municipality for Pirkan opisto. The institute's governing body is the Pirkan opisto section, to which member municipalities have appointed their representatives. Additionally, there is a Pirkan opisto steering group consisting of officials from the member municipalities. The principal of Pirkan opisto serves as the preparer and presenter for the meetings of the section and the steering group. The selected candidate must have excellent information and communication technology (ICT) skills. We expect the principal to have excellent cooperation and interaction skills, as well as a readiness for team-based collaboration. Furthermore, the principal must have a strong pedagogical vision and a passion for development, as well as solid expertise in financial management and personnel leadership. The position requires strong change management, problem-solving, and organizational skills, as well as ICT skills. We require knowledge of non-formal adult education and basic art education, as well as a strong vision of the institute's role in promoting competence and well-being. The eligibility for the principal is defined in the Decree on the Qualifications of Teaching Staff (14.12.1998/986, § 2). Eligible candidates must have a higher university degree, the teacher qualifications for the relevant form of education as specified in the decree, sufficient work experience in teaching positions, and a degree in educational administration according to the principles approved by the National Agency for Education, or university studies in educational administration covering at least 25 ECTS credits or 15 study weeks, or sufficient knowledge of educational administration acquired in another way. Before the selection decision is confirmed, the selected person must provide an acceptable medical certificate of their health issued by Pihajalinnan (City of Nokia occupational health services) and present an extract from the criminal record to verify the criminal background of those working with children (14.6.2002/504). Pirkan opiston rehtorin tehtäväkohtainen palkka on 5100 euroa. Lisäksi tehtävästä maksetaan työn vaativuuteen perustuvaa korvausta 640-840 euroa.
