As a specialist in orthopedics and traumatology, you will build care pathways for pediatric spinal orthopedics as part of the highly skilled children's and adolescents' surgery team at Turku University Hospital and impact the quality of life of young patients with your long-term expertise. Your Role We are seeking a specialist in orthopedics and traumatology for the children's and adolescents' surgery unit at Turku University Hospital. Your primary area of responsibility will be pediatric spinal orthopedics, but you will also serve as an essential part of the multidisciplinary children's and adolescents' surgery team and participate in the care of all pediatric surgery patients. In your work, you will be responsible for the examination, treatment planning, implementation, and surgical care of pediatric spinal orthopedic patients. You will work in a versatile environment including the ward, day surgery unit, operating room, and outpatient clinic. In this role, you will consult professionals in the children's service area on matters related to pediatric spinal orthopedics and other aspects of children's and adolescents' surgery. The position offers the opportunity to utilize your deep specialized expertise while working broadly across various areas of children's and adolescents' surgery as part of an experienced network of experts. All surgeons in the children's service area work on a flexible schedule, and we offer this opportunity to you as well. Part-time work is also possible in our unit. There is good flexibility and influence over shifts, and active development of your own work is encouraged. What We Expect From You You are a specialist in orthopedics and traumatology with strong expertise in spinal orthopedics. We require good collaboration and interaction skills, as well as good oral and written proficiency in Finnish and Swedish. Extensive experience in adult spinal orthopedics is considered an advantage. Additionally, completed additional training in pediatric orthopedics and a Doctor of Medicine degree are seen as assets. Eligibility requirements include legalization or a permit to act in medical positions as stipulated in the Act on Health Care Professionals (559/94) and specialist qualification in a field suitable for the position. The suitable specialty is orthopedics and traumatology. Additionally, the applicant is required to have completed a spinal orthopedics additional training program and the ability to independently plan and implement the comprehensive care of a child with spinal problems, including surgery.
