Senior Backend Engineer

Fingerprint is a globally dispersed, 100% remote company. We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to help build and operate the end-to-end fraud detection systems behind our Core APIs. This is a hybrid backend/SRE role: you'll write the services and you'll own how they behave in production. You’ll design and implement scalable, high-performance backend systems, maintain their SLOs, and take ownership of features from concept through deployment and steady-state operation. The role requires strong experience in backend development, API design, and scaling distributed systems in Go and Node.js, with a focus on reliability engineering. Responsibilities include designing and optimizing backend systems for real-time data processing, defining SLIs/SLOs, building observability, participating in on-call rotations, driving automation to reduce toil, capacity planning, load testing, performance tuning, and cross-functional collaboration. You will mentor other developers and help the team grow in our mission and values. What you’ll do: - Design, develop, and optimize backend systems for real-time data processing with reliability, latency, and cost in mind. - Define and own SLIs and SLOs for Core API services and balance velocity with stability using error budgets. - Build and maintain observability with metrics, logging, tracing, and actionable alerts. - Participate in on-call rotations, lead blameless postmortems, and balance coverage to minimize off-hours disruptions. - Automate recurring manual work to reduce toil and ensure reliable incident handling. - Conduct capacity planning, load testing, and performance tuning to scale ahead of demand. - Perform deep dives into features, run experiments, analyze results, and translate findings into engineering improvements. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate backend components and ensure performance and scalability. - Promote a data-driven, reliability-minded culture and share engineering best practices. - Mentor other developers to grow in skills and contribute to the team’s mission. What you bring: - 5+ years of backend development experience, with production ownership. - Formal SRE practice experience (error budgets, capacity models, production readiness reviews, chaos testing). - Strong experience in Go and/or Node.js and willingness to learn. - Experience building scalable backend systems and APIs. - Hands-on experience with Docker/Kubernetes and infrastructure as code (Terraform or CloudFormation). - Observability tooling (Datadog) and building dashboards/alerts. - On-call incident response and post-incident analysis. - Strong SQL knowledge; DynamoDB/Redis/Elasticsearch experience. - Git, IDEs, shell scripting, CI/CD. - English proficiency for global remote team communication. - Independent yet collaborative work style. - Mentorship eagerness. Nice to Have: - BS/MS in CS or related field, or equivalent. - Experience with ClickHouse/Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift/Databricks. - Performance profiling and cost optimization for high-throughput cloud workloads. - Open-source project experience and async cross-team communication. - Node.js and Go experience in backend context. - Strong security/privacy understanding.
