About the role

The City of Mikkeli is seeking a roving part-time early childhood education teacher for pre-primary education. The role involves serving as a teacher for bilingual education and language immersion in pre-primary education from September 1, 2026, to May 31, 2027. The position is part of the "Bilingual Education to Mikkeli 2026-2027" project, funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education's special state grant for the organization of bilingual education and language immersion. The early childhood education teacher's task is to organize language-rich, English-language instruction for pre-primary groups operating under daycares. Working hours are Monday to Friday, primarily during pre-primary operating hours. Eligibility for the position requires early childhood education teacher qualifications in accordance with Section 26 of the Early Childhood Education Act. The selected candidate must be eligible for pre-primary education and possess good oral skills in both English and Finnish. As pre-primary groups are located across the city, a driver's license is required, and the possibility of using one's own car is preferred. Some travel may be arranged via the city's shared vehicles. You can learn more about the units on our website www.oppiminen.mikkeli.fi Pre-primary work is guided by the national and local pre-primary education curricula. Our early childhood and pre-primary activities are strongly based on play. Narrative play pedagogy will be used in language-rich pre-primary education. We value a pedagogical, development-oriented, and sensitive approach to work. We expect good interaction and cooperation skills with children, guardians, and members of the work community. Weekly working hours are 30 hours and 36 minutes, which is 80% of full-time hours. The part-time monthly salary is 2,420.53 euros. Remuneration and terms of employment are according to OVTES. The City of Mikkeli offers annual sports, culture, and wellbeing benefits via Epassi and a comprehensive range of training opportunities. Applications should be submitted via the electronic application form through Kuntarekry by Friday, August 14, 2026, at 3:00 PM. A degree certificate proving eligibility must be attached in PDF format; photo attachments may be too large for the system. Original degree and work certificates will be verified during interviews. Selection is subject to the applicant's consent to a drug test. The selected person must present a criminal record extract as specified in Section 6, subsection 2 of the Criminal Records Act (extract for those working with children).
