We are seeking a technically hands-on Senior Engineering Manager to lead the engineering team building the Bentley Developer Platform - the end-to-end technical stack that takes a developer from sign-up through API consumption to metering, billing and settlement, and API/MCP Standards & Registry. You will own delivery of this platform and build and lead a team of approximately eight engineers across portal, infrastructure, QA, and security. This is a hands-on, high impact engineering management role. You will run delivery and sprint planning, make technical decisions in partnership with the Senior Principal Engineer, and remain actively involved in the code, contributing hands-on for a meaningful portion of your time. We are looking for a delivery-focused, technically credible leader who can both build a high-performing team and ship a commercial-grade platform. Responsibilities Own end-to-end delivery of the platform across the portal and infrastructure teams: API gateway, metering pipeline, billing engine integration, and settlement. Hire, organize, and lead a team of approximately eight engineers (Portal, Platform Infrastructure, QA/Automation, and a matrixed Security Engineer). Run sprint planning, delivery cadences, and release management, maintaining a continuous and reliable delivery pipeline. Make technical decisions in partnership with the Senior Principal Engineer and remain hands-on, contributing to the codebase directly. Deliver the platform’s foundational milestones, including the API gateway with OAuth-based authentication, the developer portal, the initial commercial model, and live usage and metering dashboards. Partner with Product Management to translate product specs for the Developer Hub and commercial engine into delivered software. Coordinate L2 developer support for API integration, authentication, and performance issues, and manage the handoff of L3 issues to product teams. Partner with Security and Legal to operate within established security, compliance, and deployment standards. Qualifications 12+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years leading or managing engineering teams. Demonstrable track record of building a monetized developer platform, commercial SaaS product, or API ecosystem from the ground up at a scaling organisation Ability and agility to dive deep into the code to unblock your team. Solid experience with modern cloud infrastructure, API gateways, event-driven architectures, and both front-end and back-end technologies. Experience with cloud infrastructure, API gateways, OAuth, billing systems integration, and event-driven architectures. Strong delivery discipline: sprint planning, release management, and shipping to deadline against an aggressive ramp. Proven ability to hire and build a high-performing team quickly. Experience operating in a federated or matrixed environment with shared accountability across functions is a plus. Excellent communication skills across engineering, product, and cross-functional stakeholders.
