Firefighter

The South Ostrobothnia Rescue Department is seeking a firefighter; the primary place of assignment is the Ylistaro fire station. The fire station is located in the Ylistaro urban area within the city of Seinäjoki. The fire station staff work general working hours. The work begins on October 1, 2026, or by agreement. The primary duties of the firefighter include participating in rescue operation crew tasks. Additionally, the firefighter participates as needed in tasks related to the prevention of rescue operation accidents and performs equipment maintenance and inspection tasks. At the Ylistaro fire station, the firefighter's duties also include training the personnel of the contractual fire brigade and other tasks specifically assigned by the supervisor. Performing the duties of a firefighter requires at least a FireFit index of 3.0 and an aerobic endurance index of 3.0, independent of age and reference group, in accordance with the Ministry of the Interior's guidelines for rescue diving and surface rescue operations (2023:28), as well as the prerequisites to operate in demanding rescue tasks (smoke diving, chemical diving, surface rescue, and basic PVAT skills). A class BC driver's license is also required. Previous work experience in the rescue sector in a similar rural operating environment and demonstrated cooperation skills are considered an advantage. The eligibility requirement is crew eligibility in accordance with the Government Decree on Rescue Operations (407/2011 Section 6, point 1). The person selected for the position must give consent to a simplified security clearance in accordance with the Security Clearance Act (726/2014), and an unobjectionable response is a prerequisite for the employment relationship. The appointment is conditional until the required conditions are met: the required degree certificate is presented, a class BC driver's license is presented, an acceptable medical certificate of health is presented, the functional capacity test results required for eligibility are presented, consent for a drug test has been given, and the employer has received an unobjectionable response to the simplified security clearance.
