The North Ostrobothnia Rescue Department has a fire service supervisor position available in its operational area. At the start of employment, the primary placement is at the Pulkkila fire station, in responsibility unit 3 serving the Haapajärvi and Siikalatva region. From the perspective of rescue services, North Ostrobothnia is a varied operating environment. The extensive region includes urban areas, coastline, fell landscapes, agriculture, large production facilities and many different special-risk sites. The rescue department provides services to more than 400,000 residents in its area. The region offers rescue-service professionals an interesting field of work. We offer meaningful team duties, work across different personnel groups and the opportunity to work independently. You can develop your professional skills through regular exercises and training. Working in a large rescue department also enables job rotation and career planning. The rescue department has a working-time bank and comprehensive compensation for inconvenient working hours. Our shift workers work 24-hour shifts in accordance with HyvTes appendix 7, sub-appendix 5. The fire service supervisor’s duties include participating in sub-officer duties in rescue operations. The supervisor also participates in preventive rescue-service work, carries out and supervises equipment maintenance and inspection duties, and handles the tasks of their separately defined area of responsibility. The duties also include training the organisation’s personnel and performing tasks separately assigned by the supervisor. We value interaction and collaboration skills and the ability to apply what has been learned in different situations. We also value initiative, planning skills, experience working as a rescue group leader and familiarity with the operating environment of the area of responsibility. Excellent physical fitness, a FireFit index of 4.5 or higher (Ministry of the Interior guidance 28/2023, appendix 7) and additional or specialist rescue-service training may be considered advantages. The application must mention muscle-strength and aerobic-endurance test results, less than six months old, in accordance with Ministry of the Interior guidance 28/2023 (Guidance on diving and surface-rescue operations in rescue services). Written test results will be checked at the interview. Applicants must include consent to a limited security clearance and physical-capacity testing. The qualification requirement is a sub-officer qualification completed at an educational institution referred to in section 55 of the Rescue Act, a university of applied sciences degree in rescue services, a previous qualification from a rescue-services educational institution that confers eligibility for officer duties, or a previous qualification from a rescue-services educational institution that confers eligibility for sub-officer duties. Performing the duties requires a valid category BC driving licence and, at minimum, a FireFit index of three and an aerobic fitness index of 3.0 under Ministry of the Interior guidance 2023:28, regardless of age or reference group. The appointee must also be capable of performing demanding rescue-service duties, including smoke diving, chemical diving, surface rescue and PVAT work. To ensure reliability, the selected person will, with their consent, undergo a limited security clearance under the Security Clearance Act (726/2014). A clearance without adverse findings is a condition of employment. More information is available on the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service website under Security clearances. The appointment is conditional until the selected person has provided an acceptable doctor’s statement on their health (Act on municipal and wellbeing services county officials, section 7) and the fitness-test results required for eligibility. Original qualification and employment certificates will be checked for candidates invited to interview. A probationary period of up to six months applies to public-service employment. For personnel vaccination protection, we comply with the vaccination protection required by the work and the Communicable Diseases Act. As an employer, we value diversity in our work communities and hope to recruit employees from different backgrounds. We are committed to promoting equality and equity.
