In the Heart and Lung Center, a substitute ward manager is sought for the lung diseases line for the period 30.9.2026-18.7.2027 or by agreement. The ward manager operates at the Meilahti Three-Hospital Complex Lung Diseases Ward 6B, and the nursing staff also includes internal substitutes of the Heart and Lung Center in Meilahti. In the 16-bed lung diseases ward, we treat a diverse range of patients, including those with pneumonia, COPD, asthma, and lung cancer. Additionally, we are responsible for the care of tuberculosis patients in the region, and our operations emphasize nursing care for patients requiring respiratory device treatment. Patients arrive at our ward mainly through the emergency department, which makes the work varied and requires strong clinical expertise and the ability to act in rapidly changing situations. High-level expertise in lung disease nursing, good equipment proficiency, and multidisciplinary cooperation are emphasized in our work. HUS Heart and Lung Center is the largest center nationally and also significant across Europe, providing specialized medical care in the fields of cardiology, cardiac surgery, lung diseases, and general thoracic and esophageal surgery. HUS Heart and Lung Center received the international Magnet hospital recognition in 2024. As a ward manager, you will lead a community of approximately 30 nursing professionals in cooperation with assistant ward managers, responsible physicians, the head nurse, and other key partners. As a ward manager, you are responsible for the management of the unit's nursing care, personnel, and operations. You ensure that nursing care is of high quality, impactful, and in line with strategic goals. The role emphasizes daily personnel management, coordination of operations, monitoring of quality and finances, and continuous development of services in cooperation with the unit's responsible physicians and a multidisciplinary network. You are also responsible for planning, implementing, and developing operating methods according to the Magnet hospital model together with the staff and nursing management. Experience in nursing supervisory roles in specialized medical care and float pool operations, or in the care entity/cooperation of respiratory device patients with wellbeing services counties, is considered an advantage. Eligibility requirements An appropriate upper university degree and suitable experience, or suitable studies in management and administration and suitable experience, or previously approved ward manager qualification and suitable experience, and additionally a licensed healthcare professional. We require vaccination protection according to the Communicable Diseases Act for those working in customer and patient areas, and a health statement regarding pulmonary tuberculosis for those working in healthcare operational units.
