About the role

Aalto University is where science and art meet technology and business... The Kvantti group (Superconducting Qubits and Circuit QED) at the Department of Applied Physics, Aalto University, is seeking outstanding candidates for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in experimental circuit QED. We are looking for a bright, motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team. You should have excellent study records in physics, engineering, or related disciplines up to the level of Ph.D. (awarded or expected soon). Your skills can be in any area of mesoscopic physics, nanoelectronics, cryogenics, microwave electronics, circuit design, clean-room techniques, simulations, data analysis, and instrument programming. Our group is doing research on circuits consisting of superconducting qubits and resonators... We have several research directions in the group, with projects funded by EU, Research Council of Finland, and by Business Finland: axion detection using superconducting qubits, control of quantum computers using microwave and optical signals, and continuous-variables quantum information processing and sensing using parametric amplifiers. Applicants for this position should hold (or expect soon) a PhD degree in physics, electrical engineering, or computer science. Applicants should preferably have prior research experience in one or more of the following areas: design and fabrication of superconducting devices, cryogenic operation and measurements, microwave electronics, numerical simulations, quantum control, and data analysis. A fixed-term contract will be made initially for two years. Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities. The starting salary for a Postdoctoral Researcher is approx. 4229 €/month and it can increase to 4649 €/month depending on the level of experience and expertise. The contract includes occupational healthcare. The primary workplace will be the Otaniemi Campus at Aalto University.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on circuits consisting of superconducting qubits and resonators
  • Work on projects related to axion detection using superconducting qubits
  • Develop control of quantum computers using microwave and optical signals
  • Perform continuous-variables quantum information processing and sensing using parametric amplifiers
  • Utilize OtaNano research infrastructure for nanofabrication and cryogenics

Requirements

  • PhD degree in physics, electrical engineering, or computer science (awarded or expected soon)
  • Excellent study records in physics, engineering, or related disciplines
  • Preferably research experience in design and fabrication of superconducting devices, cryogenic operation and measurements, microwave electronics, numerical simulations, quantum control, or data analysis
  • Motivation for transiting to a new field if coming from nearby fields like quantum optics or nanoelectronics
