About the role

Our core expertise is in technology, health and society. Read more at www.tuni.fi We are looking for a doctoral researcher for a fixed-term employment starting September 1, 2026 or by agreement. The position is located in the Faculty of Management and Economics, administrative sciences unit. The employment is fixed-term and the duration is 17 months. The position is part of a research project funded by the Academy of Finland, in which the researcher examines good governance, the activities of sports clubs and value creation, and their connection to wider actor networks. Job description The doctoral researcher conducts their own doctoral research as part of the research project. The task includes participation in the project's research tasks and research communication. In addition, the task includes data collection and analysis based on a qualitative research approach, scientific publishing and participation in international conferences as well as stakeholder cooperation related to the themes of the project. In addition, the task may include teaching or other academic tasks for a maximum of about 5% of working time. Requirements The applicant is required to have: - a suitable higher university degree (e.g. social sciences, sports sciences, or other suitable field). The degree must be completed by the end of the application period - readiness and motivation for doctoral studies - expertise in qualitative research methods - ability for independent and goal-oriented research work - good English and Finnish language skills Considered an advantage: - experience for example from interviews, document materials or case studies - previous research experience, publications or theses - interest in societal sports research, themes of good governance and value creation We offer - a fixed-term employment (17 months), starting 1.9.2026 or by agreement - the opportunity to complete part of the doctoral degree as part of a research project funded by the Academy of Finland - guidance from experienced researchers - an international and multidisciplinary working environment - access to doctoral school courses and networks - terms of employment and remuneration are determined according to the university salary system (job level 2–4).
