About the role

We are seeking a school assistant for a fixed-term position at Lohtaja School for the period 12.8.2026 - 5.6.2027, or starting as agreed. Lohtaja School is a primary school for grades 1-6 with approximately 300 students. Next autumn, the teaching staff will consist of 15 classroom teachers, one lecturer, two special education teachers, three special class teachers, two support teachers for multilingual students, one preparatory education classroom teacher, and a special class teacher currently being recruited. Supporting their teaching work and operating in the morning and afternoon activities are seven permanent school assistants. For the next academic year, we need a responsible, enthusiastic professional with development and cooperation skills as a school assistant for special class education for grades 3-6. The duties also include guiding afternoon activities. The position is part-time, 79.95%, 30h 35 min/week. Salary is a level salary according to KVTES of €2,445.34/month for full-time work. Possible experience-based supplement is also available. Eligibility requirements include a vocational qualification in education and guidance, a vocational or specialist vocational qualification in school and morning/afternoon activity guidance, a degree as a youth and community guide, a Bachelor of Social Services (AMK), a practical nurse's degree, or other equivalent education that qualifies the candidate for the position. Certificates proving eligibility will be checked during a potential interview. EMPLOYER DESCRIPTION In Kajaani, as a teacher, you can become part of high-quality and well-supported basic education. Basic education in Kajaani has moderate group sizes, and providing support according to the new law has been emphasized by increasing resources for simultaneous and special education. Additionally, several special classes currently operate in Kajaani's basic education. Schools have been systematically renovated to meet modern teaching methods, ICT is utilized in teaching from the first grade onwards, and schools are located close to nature, which is reflected in teaching in all seasons. There are 12 basic education schools and a total of 14 teaching units in the city, each with its own principal. Basic education is part of the education sector, and the whole is led by the director of the basic education result area, which supports uniform practices and joint pedagogical development. The large-scale bilingual education launched in 2021 combines Finnish and English language teaching, offering students the opportunity for strong language skills in both languages. Kajaani also has music, sports, and mathematics classes as well as various emphases and forms of support, such as flexible basic education, preparatory education, and intensive special support education. These help support students individually and provide opportunities to develop their own strengths.
