Job Description

The City of Kerava's Children and Youth Services department is recruiting for a special class teacher position (no. 662) starting from August 1, 2026. The workplace at the start of employment is Savio School, a diverse and inclusive school with approximately 450 students. The school educates students from preschool to ninth grade, with staff comprising about 65 members. The school building is traditional and located near good transportation links, next to the train station. Our school's vision is: "Individual paths to become future makers." Future makers understand their own and others' strengths, and possess skills and the ability to operate in a changing world with diverse people. Both children and adults are future makers at our school. The task of adults is to support, encourage, and guide children pedagogically. We are looking for an enthusiastic special class teacher who can work well in a team and is ready to engage in collaborative working methods. Our school has a strong culture of team teaching, where you plan and implement lessons as part of a grade-level team. In team planning, we utilize flexible teaching arrangements between general and special education, as well as diverse teaching methods, materials, and environments. We aim to strengthen students' skills and participation through future skills, strength-based education, home group pedagogy, and restorative practices. You will work in classrooms with students studying either subject-wise or activity-area-wise, supported by student and school guidance counselors. The position is for the academic year 2026-2027, with instruction divided by activity areas. You succeed if you have an interest in teaching students requiring broad support, including those studying according to individualized or activity-area curricula. Your success is supported by an enthusiastic attitude, strong communication skills, and pedagogical knowledge of information and communication technology. You also have the courage to lead your class team, involving and respecting guides. Join us as a colleague, and you will have the opportunity to influence the well-being of children in Kerava according to your strengths. In Kerava, you will find an eager and energetic team of professionals. Kerava is a small, yet vibrant city with a manageable environment and close cooperation. The city offers good conditions for education and development. We value well-being, participation, an interactive culture, and the use of information and communication technology in learning. Qualifications are based on the decree on qualifications for teaching staff (986/1998). We primarily seek teachers qualified for subject-specific special class teaching. If qualified applicants are not available, the position may be filled temporarily for the 2026-2027 academic year, from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027. Salary and other employment terms are based on OVTES. In Kerava, qualified special class teachers are paid a higher task-specific salary of €3,594.91/month, with an additional €77.42/month for disability education (as of spring 2026). The position includes a six-month probation period. Excellent proficiency in Finnish is required. The selected candidate must provide a satisfactory health certificate and a criminal background check as required by law (504/2002) and the Criminal Records Act (770/1993) section 6, subsection 2.
