Special Class Teacher, Disability Education - Keravan kaupunki - Kervo, Finland

In the Children and Youth Services sector of the City of Kerava, a vacancy for a special class teacher (no. 662) is open from August 1, 2026. The workplace at the start of employment is Savio School, a diverse and inclusive school with approximately 450 students. The school educates students from preschool to ninth grade, with staff comprising about 65 members. The school building is traditional and located near good transportation links, next to the train station. Our vision is: Individual paths to become future makers. The task of adults is to support, encourage, and guide children pedagogically. We are looking for an enthusiastic special class teacher who can work well in a team and is ready to engage in collaborative working methods. Our school has a strong culture of team teaching, where you plan and implement lessons as part of a grade-level team. In planning, we utilize flexible teaching arrangements between general and special education, as well as diverse teaching methods, materials, and the local environment. We aim to strengthen students' skills and participation through future skills, strength-based education, home group pedagogy, and restorative practices. You will work in classrooms with students studying either subject-wise or activity-area-wise, supported by student and school guidance counselors. The position is for the 2026-2027 school year, in activity-area-based teaching. You succeed if you have an interest in teaching students who need broad support, including those studying according to individualized or activity-area curricula. Qualifications are based on the decree on qualifications for teaching staff (986/1998). Primarily, we seek teachers qualified for subject-specific special class teaching. If qualified applicants are not available, the position may be filled temporarily for the 2026-2027 school year from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027. Salary and other employment terms are determined according to OVTES. In Kerava, qualified special class teachers are paid a higher task-specific salary than the OVTES standard, which is 3594.91€/month, plus an additional 77.42€/month for disability education (as of spring 2026). The position includes a six-month probation period. Excellent proficiency in Finnish is required. The selected candidate must provide a satisfactory health certificate and a criminal background check issued under the law on background checks for persons working with children (504/2002, section 6, subsection 2).
