Doctoral Researcher

Doctoral Researcher (PhD student) position in Signal Processing at Tampere University. The research topic lies at the intersection of statistical signal processing and optimization, with emphasis on theory and algorithms. Key focus applications include array signal processing for sensing (e.g., radar, RF imaging, sonar) and wireless communications, where multisensor (MIMO) systems are, and will continue to be, a core technology. In this position, the candidate is expected to: carry out high-quality research on mutually agreed topics, publish / present results in top international signal processing and machine learning journals / conferences; complete a doctoral degree, including mandatory study credits required; assist in teaching tasks and undergraduate supervision (up to 5% of total working time). The work will be supervised by Assistant Professor Robin Rajamäki. Partial remote work (e.g., 1–2 days a week) is possible, as separately negotiated. Requirements: master’s degree (or equivalent eligibility for doctoral studies) from related fields by Jan 1, 2027; strong mathematical maturity; solid foundation in signal processing and statistics; proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or equivalent; excellent English communication. The position is located in the Unit of Computing Sciences, Tampere University.
