Musician

Jokiläänin Parish is a newly formed union parish established at the beginning of 2026. We bring together the strong traditions of three parishes and boldly build a future parish whose life is the life of its parishioners. As a musician, you will work with the parish cantors, other members of the proclamation and music team, and active parishioners. The focus of your role is developing and strengthening community-based music work. Your duties particularly include: - Developing and leading band and singing-group activities - Strengthening parishioners’ participation in music work - Musical duties at services and church ceremonies - Developing new forms of musical activity - Supporting and developing parishioners’ musical participation and voluntary music-making We hope, for example, that Messupysäkki, Vanhojen nuorten Majatalo and Raskaasti vie ristin tie will have their own house bands to create an atmosphere, lead shared music-making and convey the Gospel. We require a qualification suitable for the position: - Bachelor of Music - Music Pedagogue (UAS) - Musician (UAS) - Another applicable higher-education qualification in music As this is an employment-contract musician position and not a cantor’s office, the study requirements for a cantor’s office specified in section 5 of Church Statute Collection No. 163 are not required of the selected applicant. We value demonstrated practical experience in community music work and leading bands and singing groups, as well as readiness to provide music for ceremonies and services on the organ. The position is fixed-term from 1 February 2027 to 31 December 2029. The fixed term is based on the transition following the parish merger, during which we will conduct assessments of service needs, staffing and office structures to support future staffing decisions. The fixed-term position is also a development period focused on community musicianship, during which we will assess the effects of this work on the parish’s music life, participation and voluntary activities. The position is in demand group 503. The minimum salary is €3,028.21 per month, plus personal salary components. Applicants must be confirmed members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. Those selected for interview will receive instructions separately. The parish council will make its decision at its meeting on 25 November 2026, and work begins on 1 February 2027. Before starting work, the selected applicant must provide an acceptable certificate of health and a criminal-record extract as required by Act 504/2022 concerning the checking of the criminal background of people working with children. The position has a six-month probationary period.
