CNC Machinist

Mehi Oy designs and manufactures special and standard tools, hydraulic, mechanical and pneumatic clamping solutions, measuring instruments and gauges for quality management, and machine components through contract manufacturing and subcontract machining. The company is part of the Kainuu-based family-owned Mehi Tools Group. Mehi Oy’s facility is located in Suomussalmi in Upper Kainuu. Design, machining, new heat and surface treatment, ultrasonic washing, grinding and quality assurance enable the design and manufacture of high-quality products quickly for customers in Finland and international markets. As the business expands, we are looking for a CNC machinist for a multi-tasking lathe at Mehi Oy. The position is permanent and part-time, but in practice it corresponds to almost full-time work. Work is done on weekends, 12 hours per day on Saturday and Sunday, followed by five days off. The 24 hours of work effectively result in 36 hours’ pay (while full-time work is 40 hours per week). It is also possible to agree on full-time work by adding extra hours on weekends. Work starts by agreement, preferably as soon as possible. The position is permanent. Returning may now be possible. Feel free to contact us. The role involves working as a CNC machinist on either a MASAK or OKUMA multi-tasking lathe, depending on your skills. You can read technical manufacturing drawings or 3D models, program and edit programs, and manufacture varied parts according to plans using a CNC lathe or CNC machining centre. Products may include tools, machine components or subcontract-machined parts. Finally, you check that the overall quality meets the set requirements and that the part can proceed to the next stage of the production process. You will work in cooperation with the other members of the MEHI team. They will provide support and detailed information to help you make decisions. You will not be alone in the role. Your workplace is at Mehi Oy’s facility in Suomussalmi. The work is mainly independent, but the new employee is also expected to have teamwork skills. CNC machining tasks vary, and we are looking for someone proactive, systematic and precise in their work. The job occasionally involves lifting and moving heavy products. We expect you to have: - A basic vocational qualification in mechanical engineering and metalworking, or another suitable basic vocational qualification. - Experience in turning or operating a five-axis multi-tasking lathe. - The ability to read technical drawings and understand tolerances and measurement. - Willingness and enthusiasm to learn new things in CNC machining. - The ability to work independently and as part of a team, and good interpersonal skills. - Finnish-language skills.
