Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Senior infrastructure engineer in Helsinki; 8+ years' experience with AWS, Terraform and Linux required.
We’re looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join the IT Infrastructure team. The team that runs the plumbing that makes Supercell offices work: network, identity, hosting, monitoring and the glue between them. Your customers will be the rest of the company - in Helsinki, London, San Francisco, Seoul, Shanghai and remote. Your job is to give them a platform that works and stays out of their way. We are currently in the process of modernizing our stack to run on terraformed AWS. The groundwork is done; what’s left is the hard part: powering down our VMware clusters, decommissioning Active Directory and re-working our PKI. We’re not just lifting and shifting VMs into the cloud. Every service gets a critical look before it moves - retire it, replace it with something managed, or rebuild it the way it should have been built - and we’re not building a spaceship where a bucket would do. To get there we want one more team member to own how we do cloud and infrastructure-as-code: how we build on AWS, how our Terraform is structured and reviewed, how AI plays into that and what we take on next. Oh, and now that AI agents are users too, we need to reflect that in our identity and monitoring platforms too. We’re a small team that owns our domain together, and divides work by what makes sense. We share what we learn, failures included. Some of us are highly specialised, some are generalists. Your role would be to bring the depth on AWS, IaC and Linux. This is not a pure build role: keeping the lights on, helping other teams and pitching in on whatever is on fire this week is part of the job for all of us as well. What You'll Be Doing - Own how we build on AWS: account structure, guardrails, service choices, cost. You’re the person the rest of us sanity-check our cloud designs with, and the one who explains why the answer is what it is. - Own our infrastructure-as-code practice: Terraform modules, workflows, testing and review. Set the standard, teach it through reviews and pairing, and make it the easiest path so the team builds the same way with or without you in the loop. - Drive automation across the team: spot what’s worth automating, build it, and keep it maintained after the novelty wears off. You will also help us level up our AI game and bring meaningful automation updates at the team and company level. - Keep an eye on how other teams run AWS, and know when to adopt and integrate their practices and solutions instead of reinventing the wheel. - Operate what you build, and take your turn as first responder. Things break, and the unknown unknowns are part of the job. We rotate who handles escalations during business hours so the rest of the team can focus. No 24/7 on-call required. What You Have - 8+ years building and operating IT infrastructure, several of them hands-on in the cloud. - Deep, practical AWS and Terraform experience: defensible opinions on module structure, state management, testing and validation. - Strong Linux skills. You can troubleshoot an unfamiliar service, find the root cause and make it behave. - You’ve built tooling or automation your team relies on. AI is part of how you work day to day, and you can show how you make life better for everyone around you. - Solid automation and scripting skills with Python, Ansible, Bash or similar. - Experience with observability tooling and a view on what good monitoring looks like. - A solid understanding of networking fundamentals: routing, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VPN. You don’t need to be the expert, but you should be able to work with one. - An eye for security in everything you do. - Ability to work with people outside your craft, including non-technical stakeholders. - A humble, kind and respectful attitude toward others and their work, and the willingness to admit, explain and learn from your mistakes. - Willingness to do operational work and help others alongside project work. Would Be Nice if You Also Have - Experience moving on-prem workloads to the cloud and you have lived with the results - you know when a managed service beats a rebuilt VM, and when it doesn’t. - Run Grafana or Datadog in production. - Worked with Okta, Active Directory or Entra. - Interest in games, ours included. - Experience with operating in China. Where You'll Be This role is based in our Helsinki office. We value a collaborative work environment and genuine human interactions. You will work closely with our other Helsinki-based teams, such as Infosec, Cloud, and Office Experience. If you are not local, our relocation team would be excited to help you with your move to Helsinki. We provide comprehensive support not only for you, but also for your family!
