About the role

Come create joy for children through play in Aurinkokello's North Sami language group! A new, wonderful Daycare Aurinkokello has been completed in Keski-Pasila, and operations began in August 2025. Early childhood education and pre-primary activities are starting gradually in the new unit. We are now looking for an early childhood education teacher for the North Sami language group. Work can also be done part-time. Suotnjarat is a sibling group with children aged 2-6 and a teacher-childcare worker pair. The group follows both the Helsinki early childhood education plan and the Sami early childhood education plan. The goal of Sami early childhood education is to raise the child to be independent, responsible, and social and to support the development of their linguistic skills. A child's language skills develop strongly in both languages when the child goes through their entire learning path until the end of basic education in a language immersion program. The group carries out regular cooperation with both the Finnish pre-primary group and the Sami class of Pasila Primary School, which enables pre-primary children to have encounters and joint activities with children from other pre-primary groups. Aurinkokello operates in the same building as Pasila Primary School, which enables great cooperation on the child's learning path and natural joint use of facilities. The daycare is very accessible: trams, buses, trains, and bike paths lead to us excellently! What do we expect from you? We hope that your work shows mastery of good basic pedagogy of everyday life and a sensitive encounter with children. We expect that you understand the meaning of play in a child's development and learning. You recognize that play is an adult's work task, you are a playful adult and utilize playfulness in various everyday situations. Aurinkokello's facilities and equipment are designed to be inviting for play, so we expect that as an adult you feel your responsibility for the continuous modification and development of the play environment. At Aurinkokello, you will operate as part of a multidisciplinary team. We hope that you have the motivation and attitude to develop operations in a new environment and an evolving operational culture. You are open to making experiments with your team and proposing changes that promote the smooth flow of the good everyday life of children and adults. The daycare director and deputy director act as strong pedagogical support for the staff and want to enable the staff to succeed in their work. Interested? If Aurinkokello could be your new workplace, act now and send your application. We will contact all those invited for an interview personally. Why work for us? It is important to us that you can do impactful work for a good Helsinki life. We want you to succeed and be inspired in your work. We offer you versatile opportunities to grow and develop as a professional. According to the latest staff survey, people enjoy working here and experience the work as meaningful! You will have access to the benefits of Finland's largest employer, such as support for commuting and a culture, sports, and wellness benefit of up to 550 euros. Employer housing: Employer apartments located around the city, which you may apply for. As an early childhood education teacher, you are responsible for the construction of your child group's operational culture and learning environment, the planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of pedagogical activities, and the support of children's individual learning in accordance with the Helsinki early childhood education and pre-primary plan, the early childhood education unit's operational plan, and the child's individual early childhood education plan (vasu). Eligibility requirements: We require that you have eligibility in accordance with the Early Childhood Education Act (540/2018) or, according to the transitional provision (Section 75), a Bachelor of Education degree (lto), a suitable university of applied sciences degree, or a previous equivalent college-level degree, e.g., a kindergarten teacher or social educator degree (Act 272/2005 and Decree No. 608/2005). A recognition decision made by the National Agency for Education based on foreign education for the eligibility for the position applied for also fulfills the eligibility requirement. The central working language of the position is North Sami. The position requires good oral North Sami language skills. In addition, the applicant must have good oral and written skills in either Finnish, Swedish, or English. Finnish language skills are considered an advantage. In the absence of eligible applicants, applicants with developing North Sami language skills will also be considered. The selected person must present a valid criminal record extract for working with children (504/2002). A tuberculosis clearance for the respiratory organs for those working with children under school age is checked (Infectious Diseases Act Section 55). The bonus is paid only once to the same person.
