Official Veterinarian

The duties of the Official Veterinarian include tasks based on notifications as well as animal welfare inspections included in the monitoring plan, tasks related to animal disease control, monitoring of primary animal production and sampling, and monitoring of animal by-products. Animal welfare tasks are primarily carried out as pair work. The official's office is located in Rauma, and the duties are primarily located in the city of Rauma and the municipality of Eura. Official veterinarians substitute for each other, so the monitoring area also covers the entire South Satakunta environmental health region. The location of the office may be changed later if necessary. The eligibility requirements for the position are given in the Act on the Practice of the Veterinary Profession (29/2009). A veterinarian licensed in Finland can be appointed to the position. Performing the duties requires good oral and written skills in Finnish, sufficient IT skills, the ability to perform an independent expert task, decision-making ability, initiative, sense of responsibility, an active work approach, good interpersonal skills, and good stress tolerance. Previous experience in the duties of an official veterinarian is an advantage. Other language skills are also considered an advantage. Most important, however, is a positive and energetic attitude and an interest in animal welfare and its promotion. The person selected for the position will receive a good induction and continuous support from an experienced and competent work community. Performing the duties requires a valid driver's license and the possibility of using one's own car. Before accepting the position, the applicant must present an acceptable medical certificate regarding their state of health. A six (6) month probationary period applies to the position. The terms of employment and remuneration are determined according to the general municipal civil service and employment agreement (KVTES). The weekly working time in the position is 38 hours and 15 minutes. Some workdays can be done remotely. The position-specific salary is €5,716.35/month.
