In the Heart and Lung Center, a substitute ward manager is being recruited for the lung diseases line for the period 30.9.2026-18.7.2027 or by agreement. The ward manager operates at the Lung Diseases Ward 6B of Meilahti Third Hospital, and the nursing staff also includes internal substitutes of the Heart and Lung Center in Meilahti. On the 16-bed lung disease ward, we diversely treat patients suffering from pneumonia, COPD, asthma and lung cancer. In addition, we are responsible for the care of tuberculosis patients in the region, and our activities emphasize nursing care for patients requiring respiratory device treatment. Patients come to our ward mainly through the emergency department, which makes the work varied and requires strong clinical expertise and the ability to act in rapidly changing situations. Our work emphasizes high-level lung disease nursing expertise, good equipment expertise and multidisciplinary cooperation. HUS Heart and Lung Center is the largest center nationally and also large on a European scale, where we offer specialized care in cardiology, cardiac surgery, lung diseases and general thorax and esophageal surgery. HUS Heart and Lung Center received the international Magnet Hospital recognition in 2024. As a ward manager, you lead a work community of about 30 nursing professionals in cooperation with assistant ward managers, responsible physicians, the head nurse and other key partners. As a ward manager, you are responsible for the management of the unit's nursing, personnel and operations. You ensure that nursing is high-quality, impactful and in accordance with strategic goals. The position emphasizes daily personnel management, coordination of operations, monitoring of quality and finances and continuous development of services in cooperation with the unit's responsible physicians and multidisciplinary network. You are also responsible for the planning, implementation and development of operating methods according to the Magnet Hospital model together with the staff and nursing management. Success in the position requires interest in nursing supervisor positions, ability to perceive larger entities, good organizing and interaction skills, ability to work in a multidisciplinary work community in changing situations, desire to develop nursing and operations in a patient-oriented way based on evidence as well as initiative and willingness to move changes forward. We value an independent way of working, good organizing and interaction skills as well as willingness and agility to lead functional changes. Successful handling of the substitution requires an active and developing approach based on researched information. Experience in nursing supervisor positions in specialized care and substitute staff operations, or the respiratory patient care entity/cooperation with wellbeing areas is considered an advantage.
