The job description of a family counselor in child welfare open care includes family work, social guidance, and pair work with social workers. The work may also include assessment of service needs and pair work in services for families with children. Family counseling is an open care support measure implemented through intensive work with the family. Families are usually in a challenging situation and need special support and guidance. The goals, duration, and meetings of family counseling are defined together with the family and the social worker. With the help of the family counselor, the aim is to strengthen the family's resources, strengthen parenthood, and support internal interaction within the family. In family counseling, work is done in the family's home as well as in the child's and family's various everyday environments. Family counseling can support the family in situations requiring change, for example: - Deficiencies in daily management. - Substance abuse and mental health problems. - Behavioral challenges. The family counselor works during general working hours, meaning that working hours may vary between 7 am and 8 pm. Work mainly takes place on weekdays, but if the family's situation requires it, individual shifts may also be on weekends. The place of work is mainly Sodankylä, but work may also be elsewhere in the service area. We offer: - Weekly team meetings, support from the immediate supervisor, and regular supervision to support the work. - Task-specific salary 3,151.43 €/month. - Flexibility in work, e.g., through gliding working hours. We require from the applicant: - Social Services degree (Bachelor of Social Services/Sosionomi AMK). - Driver's license and the possibility of using own car. - Excellent Finnish language skills. We value: - Work experience in child welfare. - A flexible and outreach-oriented approach to work. - A positive attitude towards development. - Good cooperation and interaction skills as well as the ability to work independently. - Methodological expertise, e.g., 'children to talk' (lapset puheeksi), NEPSY guide, substance abuse and psychiatry expertise. - Sami language skills. Terms of employment are determined according to the Sote agreement. A 6-month probationary period applies to the position. The person selected for the position must present a criminal record extract as required by the Act on the checking of the criminal background of persons working with children (504/2002). Regarding staff vaccination protection, we follow the vaccination protection required by the Working and Communicable Diseases Act.
