We are Helsinki Shipyard – celebrating 160 years of shipbuilding excellence. Since 1865, we have been designing, building, and commissioning tailor-made, high-class passenger vessels and icebreakers for extreme conditions. We proudly continue the legacy of Helsinki’s own Shipyard, right in the heart of Helsinki. With us, you get to design and build the ships under one roof from start to finish, in close collaboration with our customers. Our specialty lies in vessels that operate on the polar seas, but we can build everything from smaller yachts to complex multi-purpose icebreakers. To provide you with some perspective, we've built 50% of the world's icebreakers - without us it would be hard to navigate in the icy seas! We are now beginning construction on a new heavy icebreaker for the Canadian government. The vessel will be constructed in Helsinki before being completed at Davie's shipyard in Quebec by 2030. We are currently looking for an HVAC Designer to join our diverse HVAC Design team of 27 people. You will work with a skilled team of designers from various backgrounds and be part of a multidisciplinary design and project organization. The HVAC design department is responsible for designing systems and selecting suppliers for all passenger and crew comfort systems, safety-related piping systems, and several other essential ship functions. In this role, you will be responsible for specific systems as a system-responsible designer in a ship project. You will be accountable for economical, regulatory, and qualitative design decisions throughout the project. Previous ship-related experience is not mandatory, but we hope you have around five years of experience in HVAC design. Your role includes producing drawings for the basic design phase. You will also create components and perform technical handling to support the purchasing of equipment specified in your design. In addition, you will prepare test programs and support production as a specialist in your designated systems. A typical workday includes design work, contacting suppliers, resolving design solutions together with other designers and production specialists, and participating in line organization development activities. To succeed in this role: - You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field of Engineering. - You have around five years of experience in HVAC design. - Work experience in ventilation, heating, and cooling systems - Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment are necessary. - A good command of the English language (both written and spoken) is required. What makes us a good choice? - Our designers participate in the whole process from drawing first drafts to collaboration with suppliers to the finished product. - In our close-knit Design team of approximately 120 individuals, everyone is familiar with one another, and everyone has a mandate to make a true impact in the projects. - Environmental responsibility is a core value for us. As part of our commitment, we participate in joint Helsinki sea monitoring, where the quality and harmful substances in the water are monitored. - We offer flexible working options. We have offices in Helsinki, Turku, and Pori, with hybrid work possibilities. Our team members work both remotely and on-site at the office, depending on the tasks and project phase.
