Do you have the vision and enthusiasm to develop modern health and wellbeing facilities for the needs of Helsinki residents? Would you like meaningful and varied work on facilities projects for Finland’s largest social, health and rescue services provider? We are seeking an architect for the Facilities Services unit for the period 1 December 2026–31 December 2027. We need your strong planning expertise for renovation and new-build projects in social, health and rescue services. Your key task as an architect is to be responsible for facilities projects and space alterations for the different service areas, and related expert tasks in cooperation with other specialists. You will also promote and coordinate the user side’s initial information between project parties during different construction stages. You will be responsible for initiating facilities projects and for guidance, development and direction concerning the functionality of facilities planning and loose furnishings. You will also manage the overall facilities projects. You will have an excellent vantage point for developing new spatial solutions and operating models, and coordinating service-area guidelines and user information during needs assessment, reference and project planning, implementation planning, construction and commissioning. As an architect in social, health and rescue services, you will act as a space-planning expert on the use, functionality and cost-effectiveness of facilities. You will actively participate with core services in developing planning processes, space concepts, metrics, participation methods and tools. Our work is multidisciplinary. You will be supported by architect and interior architect colleagues, and your project partner will be a specialist designer. The work involves customer service and requires understanding the views of facility users, as well as good interaction and negotiation skills in multidisciplinary networks. We hope you have expertise and experience in: • Space planning for healthcare facilities • User-centred design • Construction project management • Space requirement cards and the Modelspace system The role requires a self-directed, solution-focused and proactive approach and good organisational skills. Familiarity with social, health and rescue services is an advantage. Our daily work is guided by the City’s shared values: resident focus, ecology, fairness, safety, inclusion and participation, and entrepreneurial spirit. Facilities Services is a multidisciplinary, inspiring and development-oriented unit where you can develop your work and expertise. Friendly colleagues and a good work community welcome you. You will be supported by a diverse group of support-service specialists. Multisite working is possible, and our premises are at Kallio Government Office Building on Toinen linja. The role includes site visits to core-service locations. We offer supplementary training to support your professional skills as needed and the City of Helsinki’s diverse employment benefits. Join us in making Helsinki a better city where everyone can build the life and everyday routine they want! Because life is about more than work, we care about work-life balance. You will have access to Epassi Flex, including sports, culture, commuting and wellbeing benefits. The maximum benefit is €550 per calendar year. The available balance depends on the length of your employment. A lunch benefit is also available. You will also receive access to a city bike as a staff benefit and may visit the city employees’ own recreational island. Eligibility requirement A higher university degree in architecture and at least five years’ work experience as an architect. Good spoken and written Finnish and satisfactory Swedish. We value diversity and equality in our work communities. We welcome applicants of different ages and genders, people with disabilities and people from linguistic, cultural and other minorities. We aim to ensure an accessible recruitment process for all applicants. If you need adjustments during recruitment or have accessibility requests, you can email sotepe.monimuotoinen.rekrytointi@hel.fi.
