Do you want to help design world-class ship deck systems — from lifeboats to mooring gear — that make passenger and polar vessels truly seaworthy? At Helsinki Shipyard, we specialize in tailor-made, high-class vessels for the most demanding marine conditions, from icy polar routes to luxury cruises. Our legacy dates back to 1865. Since November 2023, we’ve been part of the Canadian Davie Group, strengthening our presence on the global shipbuilding stage. We’re always on the lookout for motivated professionals to join our Deck Outfitting Design team. These include: Mooring and anchoring systems Lifeboats and launching mechanisms Deck cranes and handling equipment Various structural and outfitting components across the vessel We cover the full design life cycle from basic design through procurement and detail design coordination and work closely with production, suppliers, and other disciplines. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary design organization of ~120 people, and a wider shipyard community of ~400 professionals. 💼 What Could Your Role Include? Depending on your experience and profile, you could contribute to: System-level responsibility over specific deck equipment areas Creating or reviewing design documentation and drawings Coordinating detail design tasks with internal and external partners Supporting procurement activities and supplier selection Participating in budget planning and resourcing On-site collaboration with production to solve design challenges Your role can be tailored to match your experience, from technical design to coordination and leadership. 👤 Who Are We Looking For? We encourage applications from both experienced designers and individuals eager to grow into the role. Ideally, you: Have a technical background (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in mechanical or marine engineering Understand technical drawings and ship outfitting principles Have project-based work experience in design or coordination Work well in a team and independently in a fast-paced environment Communicate confidently in English (spoken and written) Experience in marine industry or shipbuilding is a definite advantage, but not required. A proactive mindset and organizational skills are key. ⚓ What Do We Offer? The opportunity to work on iconic vessels — from design to maiden voyage A meaningful role in shaping deck systems essential to safety and performance A collaborative and supportive design organization A hybrid working model — based in Helsinki, Turku or Pori A unique office location at the historic Hietalahti shipyard A strong sustainability ethos — we participate in Helsinki’s joint sea monitoring initiative “The ship project takes from 2–3 years, and you can literally see the completion of the ship from plans to the finished ship ready for her maiden voyage outside one’s own window. It’s always a moving moment when a ship leaves for her home port.” — Mohamed Elameen, Ship Theory Engineer 📬 Interested? Send us your open application and CV, and we’ll be in touch when suitable opportunities arise. Let us know if you’re more interested in hands-on design or coordination — we tailor roles accordingly. --- As part of the selection process, candidates chosen for the role will undergo a routine medical check, which includes a drug test.
