The Finnish Forest Centre promotes the sustainable use of forests. Our key tasks include collecting and sharing information about Finland’s forests, administering subsidies and supervising compliance with forest legislation. The Centre’s information systems are undergoing a major renewal. We have recently renewed our key systems and moved them to the AWS public cloud. Next, we will complete the cloud migration and aim to give up our own data centre during 2027. At the same time, we are taking greater responsibility for managing and developing our systems environment. We need new expertise for this change. As a System Specialist, you can influence what the Finnish Forest Centre’s future systems environment will look like and take part in its practical design and implementation. As a System Specialist, you will be part of the data team. The team is responsible for setting up, maintaining and further developing the Finnish Forest Centre’s data analysis and reporting environment in cooperation with the Centre’s cloud services development and maintenance team. In this role, you will: - Participate in designing and implementing a new central data warehouse. - Participate in setting up geospatial servers and databases. - Participate in implementing data transfers required by the data analysis environment. - Participate in maintaining and further developing the areas for which the team is responsible. Tasks and responsibilities are shared flexibly according to team members’ skills, strengths and interests. The precise content of the role and areas of responsibility will therefore partly take shape according to the selected candidate’s expertise and strengths. We expect you to have several years of practical experience in at least one technical area used in the role. You do not yet need to be a seasoned expert. We expect you to have practical experience in maintaining and developing an AWS data lakehouse (S3, Glue Data Catalog and Glue ETL, Athena and Apache Iceberg); maintaining and developing Linux server environments; maintaining and developing PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases; and maintaining and developing geospatial integrations. You should have an analytical approach and technical problem-solving skills, work independently and productively, collaborate well, and be able to work in a rapidly changing environment. Good spoken and written Finnish is required. The following are also an advantage: relevant education; programming experience in Python; experience using AI-based coding and development tools to support software development, automation and problem-solving; knowledge of the forestry sector; and experience in agile systems development as a member of a project group or development team. At the Finnish Forest Centre, you will work in a four-person data team, with the Head of Data and Testing Services as your manager. In addition to your team, you will be supported by specialists and architects from the Centre’s cloud services development and maintenance team, as well as other experts. The Finnish Forest Centre is a nationwide organisation, and your colleagues work in different parts of Finland. Daily communication and collaboration take place on Teams. Pay is determined according to salary group 9 of the Finnish Forest Centre collective agreement. The base salary is €3,982.50 per month. A performance-based personal salary component may also be paid; for a new employee, this is usually 0–15% of the base salary. Your workplace will be one of the Finnish Forest Centre’s offices. Our offices are located in regional centre cities. The employment is permanent. Work starts on 7 January 2027 or by agreement. The probationary period is six months. For more information about the role, contact Suvi Karjula, Head of Data and Testing Services, by phone at 040 551 8691. You can call Suvi on 20 October from 8–11 or 27 October from 14–16. You can also ask ICT Chief Architect Tero Rönkkö about the Finnish Forest Centre’s cloud migration and future development prospects at 050 306 0568. Tero is available on 20 October from 13–16 or 28 October from 8–9 and 15–16. Apply by completing the application through the “Apply for this job” link. You may attach a free-form cover letter and CV if you wish.
