Head of Public Sector Consulting

We are building public-sector consulting. Come and lead it. We are looking for an experienced business builder and leader to take responsibility for developing, growing and delivering results in our public-sector consulting services. As Head of Public Sector Consulting, you can use your strong understanding of the public sector and municipal finances, your own networks, and expertise from across the company to form solutions that meet client needs. We are looking for someone whose contacts include many municipal decision-makers, who has personally worked on financial balancing programmes, and who sees sales as understanding a client’s problem rather than putting together a PowerPoint deck. You will lead and develop the business, take responsibility for sales and high-quality service delivery, grow BDO Consulting’s public-sector service area and increase its recognition among municipalities. Your new team: BDO Consulting, Finland BDO Consulting is our newest and fastest-growing advisory area, and the public sector is one of our largest growth areas. We help municipalities, joint municipal authorities, wellbeing services counties and state organisations with financial balancing, impact assessments, service-network development, procurement and changes to procurement legislation, strategic planning and financial modelling, among other projects. We work closely with BDO lawyers, auditors and specialists in IT, valuation and sustainability, combining expertise across the company to address client needs comprehensively in one expert team. What the role is really about This is a consulting role, but above all it is a business-building role. You will lead BDO Consulting’s public-sector consulting and make it better known among municipalities. BDO’s strong position as an adviser to the municipal sector and its broad expertise in public-sector needs provide a good foundation for success. What you will do in practice • Meet decision-makers, monitor tenders, decide with other leaders which opportunities to bid for and see proposals through. • Take responsibility for assignments involving, for example, financial balancing, service networks, procurement, procurement-law transition and financial modelling. • Assemble the right people from within BDO for each project. You do not need to know everything, but you need to know who does. • Develop service offerings and package new services around client needs. • Grow an expert team and establish the service area’s ways of working. You will report to the Head of Consulting and be a member of BDO Consulting’s steering group. You will have independence to develop the service area and promote its growth. Our sales approach is based on in-depth public-sector knowledge and the ability to understand client needs and help clients find workable solutions. In the municipal sector, success also rests on long-term customer relationships, trust and collaboration at the right time. Who will succeed in this role? We believe you will succeed and enjoy working with us if you have: • Experience leading and selling public-sector consulting projects. You know how to engage with clients, win proposals and deliver projects. • Your own network among municipal and other public-sector decision-makers. • An understanding of municipal finances and the ability to build financial models or analyses. • A background in public-sector consulting or in financial leadership at a wellbeing services county or large municipality. • The ability to communicate clearly in Finnish, both in council settings and sales situations.
