General Practitioner

General practitioner position in Helsinki at the school and student healthcare service. The role involves health examinations, follow-up visits, consultations, multidisciplinary discussions (school welfare and child protection) and advisory tasks. Focus on individually tailored examinations. Depending on planning, there is scope to work in basic education schools or other educational institutions (high schools and vocational institutions). Consultative services are offered also to universities of applied sciences for now. The work partner is a health nurse, and coordination with other school health professionals is close. The unit holds regular medical staff meetings and strong team spirit. The clinic includes specialists from several fields and many doctors have long experience. Low-threshold peer consultation is available. The work community develops together to promote the health of children, youth and families. The workweek is 38.25 hours. By agreement, some work can be done at the family clinic or health centers. Some maternity clinic work is performed in family centers, where multidisciplinary work is done and service is offered with extended opening hours 7–20. Orientation is provided through an individual onboarding plan. The school and student health service offers good training opportunities, regular supervision and mentorship from an experienced colleague. By agreement with the university, doctors can work in a health center and in school and student health services and may join the specialty training in general practice. Up to 3 months of work can be credited to other specialties with university approval. Three good reasons to become a doctor for Helsinki City: broad events and culture offering; easy to move by public transport; the YEK training path can be completed (specialties: internal medicine, psychiatry, pediatrics, geriatrics).
