About the role

We are seeking a visionary and courageous culture director to lead and develop Riihimäki city’s culture responsibility area within the vitality department. The department is undergoing an organizational reform and as culture director you will build the new responsibility area’s totality, operating culture, collaboration models and impact. The responsibility area brings together museum services, culture and event services, and International House Riihimäki's integration and international services. As culture director you will be responsible for strategic and operational leadership of the culture area, its operations and financial targets, and staff management. You will lead a team of about 30 professionals and act as their supervisor. You will participate in leading the vitality department as a member of the management team. Your supervisor is the head of vitality, who with other unit heads supports and mentors you. The culture area leverages culture to promote inclusion, community and well-being, and supports interaction among diverse population groups. By bringing culture services under one management, we strengthen coordination, customer focus and the adoption of new operating models. In addition, we develop integration services as part of the city’s vitality and culture strategy and strengthen the city’s appeal and internationality. The role offers a unique opportunity to combine culture, internationality and vitality into a new holistic entity. The entity includes museum services (as unit head), culture and event services (as unit head responsible for culture producer), and International House Riihimäki (as unit head for integration). The final content and emphasis of the role will be formed partly on the basis of the candidate’s skills and strengths. The eligibility requirement is a Master’s degree. In addition, the candidate must have adequate supervisory and/or leadership experience and a good familiarity with the field of responsibility. We expect: knowledge of culture, museum and integration services; experience in staff leadership, financial leadership and strategic development; strong understanding of the public sector or a similar environment; demonstrated ability to develop services and/or the organisation; change management capability and excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills; fluent Finnish and English. Riihimäki City provides opportunities to develop your skills through external and internal training; we have EduHouse’s online training library, support for supervisory work, and a dedicated onboarding process for supervisors with supervisor half-days and digital competency badges. Our office is located in Matkakeskus near the railway station at Eteläinen Asemakatu 2. The role can be performed flexibly as on-site at the office or remotely as needed. The job starts 1 November 2026 or by agreement and is a permanent position. Working time is 36 h 15 min/week with flexible hours. A 6-month trial period applies. Salary and terms follow the municipal collective agreement (KVTES). A medical certificate of fitness must be provided within 30 days of appointment. The position’s base pay is 5,200 euros/month. Depending on experience there may be additional experience-based allowance (3% or 8% of the position’s pay) plus a personal allowance after six months based on performance.
