The role starts as soon as possible. Major data centre and energy infrastructure projects are underway in Vaala, offering a geospatial planner a unique opportunity to help build the municipality’s future. The role combines geospatial data, zoning and technical planning. The geospatial planner works primarily under the Head of Land Use Planning on zoning, land-use planning and geospatial data management. Their expertise may also be used for other Technical Office duties as needed. You will work as part of the technical services team, and the work can flexibly combine office work and remote work. Key duties: - Develop the municipality’s geospatial software and map services, manage compatibility and ensure datasets remain up to date. - Produce CAD materials for municipal needs. - Direct and plan outsourced surveying services and ensure the associated materials are up to date. - Contribute to developing the municipality to be RYHTI-compatible. - Archive zoning materials, manage documents and organise geospatial datasets. - Prepare technical studies related to zoning and land use, and compile baseline information. - Carry out other duties supporting zoning and the Technical Office. In this role, you will help strengthen the municipality’s in-house expertise and develop the use of geospatial data in planning. The successful candidate must have a suitable higher education degree. Applicants must have good command of geospatial and planning software (for example, ArcGIS, QGIS and CAD) and knowledge of geospatial systems and processes. Knowledge of zoning processes and legislation concerning land use, property and construction is an advantage. We value a careful, organised and solution-oriented approach, initiative, good information-management skills and the ability to work with specialists from different fields. The appointment and start of employment are conditional on the Vaala Municipal Council approving the required budget appropriations at its meeting on 12 November 2026. A six-month probationary period applies. Before taking up the position, the selected candidate must provide an acceptable medical certificate of health. Suitability testing may be used in the selection process. The position follows the collective agreement for municipal technical personnel.
