Pirkanmaa Rescue Services handles rescue operations and related support across the region. Its service provision includes permanent staff and around 800 contract firefighters, who take part in firefighting and rescue work under agreements with the rescue department. The Pirkanmaa Rescue Department has an extensive network of stations, including stations staffed around the clock and stations used by contract fire brigades, as well as an incident and command centre. As a Rescue Crew Leader, your duties include both administrative and operational work. During your shift, you will serve at the station, where you lead the activities of your shift at the fire station and take part in emergency response for rescue operations and pre-hospital emergency care (first response). You will carry out and oversee qualification and refresher exercises for your shift, act as a trainer when needed, and provide safety education. Your duties may also include accident prevention. As the immediate supervisor, you will ensure your staff’s ability to work, monitor their work ability and, when needed, implement the early-support model. The qualification requirement is a degree in accordance with section 6, subsection 2 of Government Decree 407/2011 on rescue services, and a valid category BC driving licence. The position also requires sufficient experience as a rescue crew leader, fire officer, shift supervisor or in similar duties. The person appointed must be qualified for smoke diving; a FireFit index of at least 3.0 is required for physical fitness (SM 5/2016, Guidelines for assessing and developing the work ability of rescue personnel). The person appointed must provide a fitness test result no more than six months old, completed using the direct method at a test facility approved by the Emergency Services Academy Finland. Applicants must also provide, with their application, a free-form written account of completing the exercises required for rescue diving fitness during the previous year or previous calendar year (SM guideline 28/2023, Guidelines for rescue service diving and surface rescue operations). A rescue diver qualification for underwater diving, experience in emergency medical care, other training that supports the duties, and trainer experience gained after trainer training are considered advantages. We expect the Rescue Crew Leader to have good interpersonal skills, a positive and proactive attitude, and above all the motivation and desire to develop Rescue Services’ direction of operations to make it even better, now and in the future. The position starts on 1 February 2027 or as agreed. There is a six-month probationary period. The permanent public post is full-time, with working hours of 42 hours per week. Shifts are generally 24 hours long, although some shifts during the year may be changed to eight-hour training days. The person selected must provide the required health certificates within one month of starting work. The selected candidate will also undergo a drug test in accordance with the Act on the Protection of Privacy in Working Life (759/2004). With the applicant’s consent, a basic security clearance will be conducted for the person appointed (Security Clearance Act 726/2014). More information about the security procedure and the subject’s rights is available at www.supo.fi. Join us in making Pirkanmaa safer and submit your application through our recruitment system! We plan to hold interviews during week 47. We will contact applicants invited to interview.
