Job Description
The service area of the North Ostrobothnia Wellbeing Services County is seeking a substance abuse worker for a project focused on developing youth substance abuse services and preventing youth overdose deaths. The position starts as soon as possible. It is a fixed-term position ending at the conclusion of the project, but no later than June 30, 2027. The role requires travel across the entire Pohjois-Pohjanmaa region. The main goal of the project is to enhance the accessibility, quality, participation, and equality of underage and young adult substance abuse services in North Ostrobothnia by developing targeted services for youth, increasing professionals' expertise in impactful psychosocial methods, and integrating developed models into the permanent service system. The first phase of the project began in Pohde in November 2025, and we are now seeking additional team members. Responsibilities of the substance abuse worker include: - Implementing youth-oriented substance abuse and dependency work in collaboration with other actors - Participating in describing the youth substance abuse service and treatment pathway - Developing health counseling for youth and piloting the operational model - Supporting professionals’ competence - Participating in planning, piloting, and evaluating models together with the project team The role involves working in multidisciplinary teams and networks. The worker will collaborate closely with substance abuse and dependency services, child protection, and aftercare teams. Applicants with studies in mental health and substance abuse work, as well as experience in substance abuse treatment or working with clients with substance abuse backgrounds, are preferred. Prior experience in development projects is valued. Eligibility requires registration or equivalent licensing under the Health Care Professionals Act (559/1994). We will verify original diplomas and employment certificates during interviews. Applicants must be registered in the register maintained by the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Terhikki and/or Suosikki). Additionally, a valid medication management competence or completion within three months of starting employment is required. Interviews will be conducted during the application period, so please submit your application promptly. The successful candidate must present a criminal record extract as specified in section 6, subsection 2 of the Criminal Records Act (2002/504). We follow a trial period of up to 6 months for employment. The trial period can be up to half of the employment duration in fixed-term positions shorter than 12 months.
