About the Team: The Agent Platform team builds the runtime and model orchestration layer powering Decagon’s agents in production. The role involves designing distributed systems, execution frameworks, and experimentation platforms to ensure fast, reliable agent performance. Your role: as a Staff Software Engineer you will design and build systems governing agent operation in real-world environments, owning complex distributed systems including execution frameworks, model orchestration, and experimentation platforms. You will collaborate with Research, Infra, and Product teams and iteratively improve agent behavior. Responsibilities include designing agent harnesses, building core runtime systems, developing control-plane logic, optimizing latency and reliability, analyzing failures, running online experiments, improving observability, contributing to voice/real-time systems, and adapting orchestration as models evolve. Background expected: experience building distributed systems, comfort in fast-moving environments, end-to-end ownership, data-driven improvement, reliability focus, debugging complex systems. Even better: experience with agent harnesses, orchestration layers, control planes, and production-quality scaling. Compensation: $200K – $400K + equity; location: United States.
