About the role

We seek to hire a Growth/Development Tutor for Jämsänkoski Comprehensive School for the period 21 September 2026 to 30 June 2027. The role supports the school’s educational work by guiding students together with a multidisciplinary network, enabling the student to develop into an autonomous individual as part of their local community. The central idea is to strengthen community, provide support and guide students to achieve the compulsory education curriculum. The daily work includes preventing school dropout, safeguarding against marginalisation and bullying, and supporting overall well‑being and daily management, as well as boosting self‑esteem. The Growth/Development Tutor acts as a “low-threshold” contact person for students and parents, acts as an impartial mediator in student matters, supports teaching and guidance staff, and remains an attentive listener for all parties. The job’s core is to provide early support and be a guiding support person in the school routine. The role is a companion and listener, a motivator and encourager. A key aspect is to act as a bridge between home and school. The position requires a lower university degree. The tutor must have relevant training in the field and sufficient work experience in education and/or teaching. The role requires understanding of physical, psychological, social and linguistic development and the ability to apply knowledge to situations arising in work. If needed, specialized expertise in specific areas of development or willingness to learn new techniques or methods is required. Excellent communication, guidance and collaboration skills, as well as strong observation, situational awareness, analytical problem solving and decision making, along with flexibility and initiative, are essential. The position is primarily located in a lower primary school’s rehabilitative and supportive class for grades 1–6, and works as part of the special class team together with the special education teacher and a school guidance counselor. Other duties and hours are arranged on the upper school side, in collaboration with our school coach. Working hours: 38.25 hours. Salary: KVTES, non‑contractual pay grade, Level B 2826.07 €. The selected applicant must provide a medical certificate and a police clearance certificate by 30 days after the decision is communicated, and participate in a health check at the start of the term including drug testing. Jämsä is a smoke‑free workplace. A three‑month probation period applies. Applications via Kuntarekry until 10.09.2026 at 23:59. Interviews in week 38.
